In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Philadelphia; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Pennsylvania are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 10:30 amβ12 am. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Ho Sai Gai Restaurant at (215) 922-4930; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions.
Customers rate it 4.3 out of 5 on Google across 883 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded chinese restaurants in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Philadelphia peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Delicious reasonably priced traditional Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. We tried traditional and original chicken beef and seafood options and loved them all! Great wonton and hot and sour soup too! Family run by the same family for years! Well worth the trip!

We hit up this chinese restaurant after our go-to went through renovation. As we stumbled in we were greeted by an amazing atmosphere and the owners were very kind. The menu is quite expansive which can be overwhelming, but there is bound to be something for everyone. I got the sesame chicken and it was quite good, however the white rice and fried rice tasted off. The egg roll was not good. Prices were fair for the amount of food you receive. The service from the owners was immaculate, we were the only people in there which created a comfy hospitable atmosphere.

You must come and meet Mr. Andy his food is outstanding and his staff (Kathy) is so pleasant. We got many different dishes pepper steak, beef and broccoli, general Taoβs chicken and chicken and eggplant in a basil sauce trust me they did not disappoint. They also have the best hot and sour soup Iβve ever had their own original recipe for the past 56 years yes 56 years theyβve been open!

This place is has a serene environment, with a traditional Chinese culture style. The prices are a little on the pricier side, the lunch specials is a good choice if you want to spend under $20.

This small restaurant is ONE OF A KIND. To start we got the crab rangoons which were super flakey and buttery. I got the lo mein with crab and oh baby it did not disappoint! For the real star of the show my boyfriend got the lunch special (general tso chicken) which also came with a soup for only $19. Our waitress delivered everything beautifully. Give ur service to this establishment!!!
